Hello, i'm gonna make a video tutorial on how to do this, it will also include how to change the battery, clean the corrosion, and how to install and use ucon64
So the first thing i was shure about was that i just needed to find a 72 pin simm board and desolder the 20 pin SOJ 514400 1Mx4 DRAMs and use them and be done, they look like this and are verry easy to find,

tototek also used to sell them i think and this guy seems to have done that successfully

the only problem is that my 24m SMD uses 28 pin dram's..
and so does this (this is exactly how my board looks like minus the two extra dram's)

and this (notice the rearanged and extra ceramic 104 capacitors + the blue ones?) maybe not needed but for more stable dram usage right?

so can we clear this up before the noble art of upgrading the smd-800 gets forgotten?
extra capacitors needed? what does the wire do?
where the hell do you find 28 pin 1Mx4 DRAMs? is that even what they are, when i searched for the partnumber a retailer had these keywords underneath
IC,DRAM,FAST PAGE,512KX8,CMOS,SOJ,28PIN,PLASTIC
partnumber beeing km48c512j-7 by samsung
sorry for my english but i want to know what i'm doing before i do anything
btw the cherryroms guy said "The chips I got from Tototek are a bit bigger and the legs of the ICs are curled underneath it so it's a bitch to solder"
makes me think he used something like this

Hi,
What you're looking for are 512K X 8bit FPM ICs.
All the copiers are using different kinds of ram boards, mostly with 4 bit ICs and some 8 Bit.
Usually 4bit SOJ ICs have a "gap" between their legs (no pun intended )
In the 1990's price could vary depending on the type of memory and package, so manufacturers were usually designing PCBs allowing 1 or 2 types of memory packages to be used, sometimes even adding some demux and custom logic.
For instance my 8M SMD uses 8 x 256K x 4 bit ICs
Configurations for ramboards can be as follow (max nb of ICs):
- 512Kx4b( x4 ) = 8M
- 1Mx4b( x8 ) = 32M
- 1Mx8b( x8 ) = 32M
- 2Mx8b( x2 ) = 32M
- 2Mx8b( x4 ) = 64M
- 2Mx8b( x8 ) = 128M
- 4Mx4b( x4 ) = 64M
- 4Mx4b( x8 ) = 128M
You can find 512K x 8bit ICs on 72 pins PC SIMM but they're less common
I recently got a 4MBx4 Siemens board with those ICs:

As you can see on this DPF board you can use both 8bit and 4bit packages type

As for your questions regarding the flitering caps: I believe they are recommended in the datasheet but not mandatory.
Concerning the wire, it could be needed for a specific board revision, if yours don't have it then don't bother. |

Thank's for the info! I feel almost comfortable enough to do this now i've gone through the entire no-intro set up to date, 1 rom from each parent, so i have a complete smd800 24M compatability list, or uncompatible rather, i'll post it soon, probably almost the same as the everdrive |

Luckily, you've got the board with SOJ24 and SOJ28 ram, so you can get a try for 4M x 4bit ram.
I have a UFO hyper 6 with ram board only support SOJ20 ram.
So I can replace ram with 1M x 4bit for max. |

What’s the best way to solder ICs whose legs are curled underneath? |

Soldering is pretty straight forward with the right tools. First, you make sure the surface is flat by removing any solder with wick, apply some flux, position your IC, put a bit of solder on your iron tip and move to each pin with a back and forth motion. If 2 pins get bridged just use some solder wick |
