I have a SF7 that was working 2 months ago, now is totally dead.

Get nasty green or red hash on the screen with no sync being sent to the tv (ie we are not talking corrupt graphics like dodgy pin connections).

I've changed the voltage regulator - no joy.

Unfortunately I'm noticing the main chip (GDSF 701, BUNG) becoming scorching hot within 20 seconds (ie will burn your finger) so its probably fried.

Have a bad feeling based on conversation with previous owner this had a useful 18V Plugged up instead of 9V in attempts to get it to work.

Any thoughts, or is it game over?

Sounds like it's toasted, I'd just salvage the RAM and pick up a new one.

Ok first I will admit that this is an old thread I am replying to Very Happy

Anyway I have the same problem here but with a Gamestation. It looks like the unit had been poorly handled and shorted out or such so the GDSF 701 chip is completely fried. I wonder if this chip is the same in the GDSF7 or not. If it is maybe it can be harvested and revived, however that looks like it would be a pain to desolder.
