Hi there - I have a black MGH which I've had since a trip to Hong Kong in 1992. I've been trying to resuscitate it but while it boots OK to the main screen, I cannot get the floppy drive to work.

I identified that the original drive's bearings failed so gave up on that. I tried using a spare drive but couldn't find a like-for-like drive (the original drive had no power connector - it used the ribbon cable itself for power). I got a GOTEK unit but can't get that to work with it either, although it does turn on and format the USB stick OK via the MGH. it seems like it's getting power, but no data signal from the MGH. I have tried cleaning the contacts.

Every time I try to access the drive, I get the "ERROR - DRIVE FAIL TO RESPOND!" message.

Opening up the base unit I did find that there was a battery which was leaking. Could that be related? What is it for?

Is there any way to test the capacitors? I have a multimeter but a n00b with using it.

Any help from anyone would be greatly appreciated!

Smile

Thanks for confirming that kazmat. I guess that means I've got something fried on my board somewhere as I'm pretty sure I've tried the S0 jumper on it's own. :\
