I was looking around Amazon and spotted this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00005ML38/qid=1116091924/sr=8-10/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i10_xgl/026-0639185-4926828

A Memory Stick Floppy adaptor.

Could these be used with backup devices?
You'd have some serious storage if they could. Cool

It seems like this little thing works with no additional drivers in EVERY floppydrive... so this might work with backup-units as well...

but seriously: the chance that anyone on this board can tell you for sure is near zero. Just from the technical point of view it should work fine... as long as the backup-unit you want to use supports reading more than 1.44MB per disk...

I suppose the only way to find out is givin it a try^^

I can tell you for certain; they ALWAYS require drivers.

alright then. there's your answer^^

...anyway: is there any kind of thing that acts just like an ordinary floppy-drive, has the same kind of connectors at the back but has much more space and additionally DOES NOT need any special drivers? Such as a tiny Notebook-HDD connected to the FDD-port (with external power supply if you like)... this would be really great. You could just store your whole Collection of SNES-roms onto the harddrive and just pick the one you like^^

No item exists as far as I know that emulates a floppy drive.

I already looked into these floppy memory stick adapters. It needs drivers, so it won't work without additions to your copier's BIOS.

The closest I got was to hook up a compact flash card to my Super Wildcard DX2 copier using a $10 Antec Datatank that I got off of Ebay along with a $15 compact flash to IDE adapter. I am still using the setup right now because it makes no noise (unlike hard drives, floppy drives, and CD drives), has no noisy fans, consumes very little electricity, and generates very little heat. Of course, the super flash has the same benefits, but it can't hold as many games at the same time. With compact flash, you have a 2GB limit, so you can make make a card with hundreds of your favorite games.
