I ordered a Master System to mega Drive converter here, and after trying it, out of all the games I've tried, only one of them works without crashing at the title screen now. I received a replacement as i was supecitng a defective converter, but is jsut as bad as the first one.

The games i tested were: Super Tennis, Alien 3, Speedball, Choplifter. Only choplifter worked without crashing.

My setup is a PAL Mega Drive model 2, with RGB lead.

What could the problem be, has the converter got any compatibility problems?

No, it is good for all other customer. (beleive me)
Only thing I think is that your MegaDrive 2 is clone ? The converter sure is no problem. It only change MD 16bits mode to SMS 8 bits mode. Then when running game, it is disabled. So, it is your MD2 problem. I hope you can find another MD to test it. If you can't find it, I can sell one (original) to you. Thanks.

* I don't mean your MD2 is bad, it can run 16bits games. But SMS need run at Z80 mode (8bits). It is different.
* And I may think your MD2 and the converter have bad contact on the slot and pins.

BigCJ34, please thoroughly clean the contacts of all your games. I'd put money on it that's the problem.. In fact, use a screwdriver to open the game so you can get a perfect look at the circuit board to see the level of dirtiness. Use a white eraser to get the grime off. Use rubbing alcohol and a cotton ball as a finisher.

Tommy,

I have this problem myself. I have the following hardware:

Sega CDX system (Sega Genesis and Sega CD in one console) USA version
SMS-PRO 32mb
SMS to MD adaptor

I can really only get 1 game to work but all others display a blank screen or have garbled graphics at start up.

Have you tried cleaning the connectors as suggested? I know you said in another post your Sega CDX was brand new so didn't need cleaning but I do think you should.

That's not right, CDX do have SMS mode, they're based on model 2 hardware.
