Yup the cap is in the console, it's a 68pF. It's there to slow the signal's transition. You should try adding it.

so there is a 68pF cap i can remove and reuse in place with the rgb ppu?
sorry kind of confused?

if that is the case i can do it now and not order and wait for a part.

Yeah, there should be a 68pF capacitor on the /RD line inside the console. Are you sure it's not there? If it's not, before ordering a single capacitor, take it out of your other NES and put it into the RGB NES to see if it fixes the problem with the PowerPak.

i have tested super mario running on the powerpak and the original cart with a variable cap in my rgb nes.
i have included a wmv of each with real time video and sound as i adjust the cap.
if i use any cap the image the original games gets corrupt. i its kind of cool to see the effect as i slowly adjust the value.
if i use the cap on the powerpak mario will start to run but with corrupt gfx.

i have 3 values of variable/trimmer caps.
103
105
472

i do not think i will get the rgb nes to work perfect with this method.
but there is a sign of hope.

Those caps are way big, you'd need to trim them down to nothing. You just need a cap marked "680" which is 68 x 10^0 pF.

So your other NES doesn't have one?

It's not necessarily near the PPU, follow pin 24 from your PPU until you come across it. If you didn't take it out, it should still be there. The capacitor is in the Famicom and NES and Playchoice schematics. Playchoice has a jumper though to connect another 100pF cap in parallel with the 68pF cap to make 168pF, so you might want to try that too!

pin 24 on the ppu goes to pin 21 on the nes cart slot. i do not see any caps in the path.
i know i never removed anything like that when doing the mod.
i have also looked at a 2nd unmodded nes.

Where does it end though? It must be there. I don't have a NES or I'd take a picture for you.

from pin 24 on the ppu it crosses from one side of the mb to the other side a few times then it ends at the edge of the mb pin21 to the cart slot adapter.

Of course not, why get a NES when I have a NES adapter? I haven't owned a NES since 10 years ago when I traded my childhood collection in at Funcoland Crying or Very sad
