I really haven't bothered with floppies in many years, but I wanted to try a few games without setting up and motherboard+parallel port, etc..
I think I used to use Winimage back in the day, but I haven't been able to find a working dload link and it's not free.
Does anyone know of a better/free app to format diskettes to 1.62?
I also remember there being an issue with certain formatting programs where the disk would take nearly twice as long to load on the SWC DX
I made this back in the early 90's and I really lost track of what I was talking about. I believe the 2.x relates to the SWC OS version that I formatted the diskettes on. I really don't remember though.
SWC (FLOPPY) LOAD TIME (PER 8 Mb):
**********************************
2.6.................54 SEC.
2.6FAST..........45 SEC.
2.7 ON 2.6......39 SEC.
2.7.................24 SEC.
2.8.................24 SEC. _________________ www.videogameobsession.com |

Doesn't the SWC itself format to 1.6? |

Yeah, the SMD does as well. I just wanted something I could format to 1.6 while at the computer. I was PM'd a link to the regged version. So I'm good on this. _________________ www.videogameobsession.com |

I do have the regged version of WinImage 8.5 as I mentioned...
It's not really a big deal anymore since I just formatted the few disks that I needed, but I couldn't find an option to format as 1.5MB (12megabits).
Maybe I'm missing something obvious.... It's been nearly 20 years since I've used this app.
From what I remember it was listed under Non-Standard Format (1.50MB)
Strange... _________________ www.videogameobsession.com |
