It looks like Tototek will be developing a N64 flash cart too.
Look at the downloads section. |

This is sweet news. Snes flash card and N64 soon. Quick question though, do N64 cartridges have as much hardware variations as the Snes ones. E.g. dsp, super fx etc. Or are they all based around 1 type of hardware? |

Its all one type of hardware, unfortunately, you'll need to swap "boot" cartridges to make save/lockout variations to boot a specific game. |

Well kyuusaku says all, 1 type of hardware (almost) , only bootchip is different.
If you got super mario 64 you can boot most normal games.
and as far as it goes for Starfox on N64, Buy the game, cause the bootchip starfox uses is one of a kind and only used in Starfox (yeah in the US it's called Starwing or so) .
So far i know there are 4 or 5 different bootchips (Starfox itself included).
So you need at least the games with all the different bootchips.
Or you can build your own multibootchip cartridge game.
(you pull out all the different kinds of bootchips and modify a cartridge with socket so you can swap the bootchips on the gamecard, or you can modify the bootcartridge so it holds all the bootchips and you work with jumpers.)
(If you google around you can find the page on how to.)
I did the multibootcartridge that needs the bootchips to be swapped, but the guy who did it, also made the bootcartridge with all bootchips in 1 cardridge and you just need to switch jumpers.
(I used this on the V64Jr 512mb and V64 256mb)
Don't ask me how to again, it is along time ago. and i don't do sucht stuff anymore.
V64Jr is kinda dum, cause of the batteries it needs to keep the rom and if you disconnect it all it loses its memory, but it is so far the best flashkit for N64
V64 256mb (CD-Based) is nice, but you need to find the special memory (it comes as 128mb) and you need the roms to be correct byte swapped if you want fast loading times. The few bigger games you can't play on this device
Z64 is nice but not really my thing, (it is however the best looking device )
CD64, well i have to find out if i ever can lay my hands on one (Soon) |

You're not missing out on much. I had the CD64 for a few years, and had nothing but problems. But when it did work, it worked great! I remember it being very touchy with the kind of RAM it liked.
Also the system connector was poor. It didnt make very good contact with 2 of my 64 systems. It had to sit just right or it wouldnt boot.
It was inexpensive though and like I said, would work great when I could get it up and running. |

Well it isn't for using, but more for the collection
So far the CD64 is the only missing backup unit for N64 i still miss.
And considering it is still being produced the new price is way to high and it doesn't support the roms bigger then 256mb.
i also know the CD64 is one of the more 'to avoid' piece of backup unit.
Well maybe if tototek likes to check-up on how to connect a HD to the N64 with usb 2.0 or firewire connection to the pc, so all roms can be on HD and run on the N64 unit from the HD, this would be just awesome
(same goes for Snes) (I know you can modify the Z64 to use a HD instead of the Zip drive) |

don't want one ATM, saving money to get me a PPC with GPS
Anyway Z64 is nice you canbuild a HD in it instead of the zip drive
hope Tototek (i asume Tigersoft will make it) wil be implementing the use of Bootemu's on the flashcard, or @ least support more then there snes cart does
Also hope the N64 will be 512M
anyway we will see |
