I have no idea if it exists. It probably isn't terribly difficult if you are experienced with the 68000 cpu and have some access to Genesis hardware documents. But if you aren't experienced with the 68000, it's near impossible. |

Monster World IV (japan) has been patched so it's probably possible also for this one. |

Monster World IV already uses SRAM. The patch is a translation and region fix.
Wonderboy in Monster World uses EEPROM. |

Just to elaborate a bit. I am guessing that Wonderboy in Monster World uses Serial EEPROM for saving. The game probably has atleast two routines. One of them for taking the game state data in Genesis's RAM and writing it onto the SEEPROM and one for reading the SEEPROM and copying the data into the Genesis's RAM. So if you can find the routine (which probably writes to $200001 I think) it shouldn't be terribly hard to understand. The change you want to make is pretty simple, rather than a single stream of data into the Serial EEPROM you just want to copy it onto the SRAM chip you'll be using instead and vice versa.
Again if you don't understand 68000 machine code this won't be easy or even possible. |

Thanks for the tips. (Maybe someday...?) Too bad Wonderboy in Monster World freezes at the title screen as it tries to access nonexistent EEPROM. It would be nice if the game was at least playable.

Someday I might get to it. I just don't know when that might be, if ever. There are alot of projects I want to do but there is never enough time. |

I looked into it a little bit today. It doesn't look like it should be that hard to find the code dealing with saving routines, and the information on how SEEPROM works is out there. Maybe if I get time I'll try to do something with it. |

Are you talking about Wonder boy in Monster World, the one about Shion, etc??
i've patched it some time ago, and it worked flawlessly on my MD-PRO 64 + first japanese Mega Drive. I'll upload the rom somewhere and post the link here... |

You should consider making an IPS patch and submitting it to www.romhacking.net so more people know about it. |

I'm kinda lazy to register at the forum at romhacking.net .
Here's the IPS:
http://rapidshare.com/files/421120043/Wonder_Boy_in_Monster_World__UE___SRAM_patch_.ips
it should be used with the following rom dump (maybe it works with other dumps as well):
Wonder Boy in Monster World (UE) [!].bin
Feel free to upload it anywhere you think will help people
ps.: rom has to be in binary format. smd won't work... |
