I voted for phantasy star. I love that series, not that PSO-crap though.

I have to cast my vote for Kid Chameleon. I really loved that game when I was little. Played it all the time, still have it, still play it.
...I'll probably play it on my 25th birthday too.

If I was a genius coder, I'd ask Sega's permission to do a remake. Then if they said no, I'd remake it anyway using non-copyrighted, original code for the engine and make it free so people could have fun anyway! mwahahaha. Cool I'm just kiddin'.

No, seriously that's my fav. Honorable Mentions for me would include:
The Shinobi series, Steel Empire, Streets of Rage Series, Quackshot, Outrun(Genesis version), and Sonic 3 by itself without S&K.

Thunder Force 4 is simply superb, best Genesis shootemup by miles... but I have to agree with deadscream, Alisia Dragoon is a very good game once you get into it, and has some of the best music on Sega!

Since i am the only person here thinks the streets of rage series is unmatched to this day i will say that it should have been on the list

-yes, it is a button masher but who cares

I have played TONS of great games for the genesis this poll does not do justice to them all

Streets of rage is a Final Fight clone. Anyways Mortal Kombat is my favourite Genesis game. Nothing better than finishers with the blood code.

phantasy star 2- music story and atmosphere
weird that a game that was so obviously rushed (compared with the depth of the first phantasy star) can be so enduring simply because of the presentation. i guess the maze like dungeons figure into the appeal too. i can't think of any other game where you HAVE to print out copies of the maps to get through the dungeons.
herzog zwei's also in the running. i bought that practically the day it came out. music's great, game play's genuinely engaging and it's one of the best two player games ever made. my roomates and i would use it to settle matters (a step up from rock-paper-scissors). it's funny, i spent something like 5 or 6 years pronouning it "heirzog zwee". one day my roomies german father stopped by for a visit, took one look at the case and said "hert-zog zway"
shouldn't the ecco games be on the list?
