Unzip the data. There will be two files UserPort.sys and UserPort.exe.

Copy UserPort.SYS to %WINDIR%\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS.

Start UserPort.EXE and press on start.

In my case i had to reboot Win XP and click again on Start of UserPort.exe.

Maybe you have to watch in your settings what number your parallel port has, then you have to add the number.

After that you can use your Ucon64.

I lost a lot of my nerves to get to this result. Sometimes it's really luck. But i have problems with my Win Me or Win 98 Laptop with SPP and EPP parallel port. GD SF6 says always "File Size Error". Very strange, it should work better with Win Me instead of Win XP.

The UserPort tip comes from the Commodore 64 scene. The author of Star Commander uses this tool as alternative. The floppy drives are connected from serial port to parallel port of PC. That's the only way of solution i know.

Actually the parallel port was abolished under Win XP. It's really luck when you can work with it. But that's the fact:
Win XP = no parallel port.

Wildload will never work, as it wasn't written to use any of the modern day LPT drivers like userport or giveio. It was written in assembler and accesses the LPT port directly. The only way to get it to work is install an older OS.

For what do you need these 2 programmes?

Well basically they are obsolete with having uCon, that is right. I just want to mention it, so you can see the drivers don't work for all programs. We are just lucky that uCon is programmed more well, so we can enjoy it! Smile

Even if you change your hardware like a new motherboard, then the UserPort way doesn't work anytime. My PC is out of order so a colleague borrowed me one. There is also Win XP on it but it doesn't work with UserPort and Ucon64. I looked in the Ucon faq and downloaded several IO dll files and put them into all Ucon directories.

It's really a big hard work to run the software 100%.

My tip to all of you:

1. If all programmes work fine on your current PC and OS, don't change anything.

2. If your hardware is out of order, try to get the same hardware again. But that can be in some cases very hard. PC hardware is produced very cheap and won't resist for a long time period. It's really an endless circuit. Sad

Please excuse the bit of a necropost. I thought I'd share solution that worked for me in case others later find it of use.

Run ucon64 -version and it'll tell you your configuration directory.

Download inpout32.dll and extract the dll file to your configuration directory (mine was C:\Documents and Settings\User). After this, ucon64 will automatically try to use it as an I/O driver, hopefully with success.
