Hey, im doing some SNES development recently, and I'm interested in buying a flash-cart to test my software. Just a few questions I have before I order.
1) What are DSP games? I read this flash-cart cant play some(or any). Do DSP games just have special hardware in their cartridge or something?
2) Can I use a regular parallel cable (from my printer) to connect to the programmer?
3) I have a USB cable which I use for my EZ-Flash II GBA cartridge. Can I use it for this too? I can't get a closeup image of the usb cable that is sold on this site so I can't compare the head shapes. I *think* its a regular A to B cable--One side is a regular head that goes into the usb port on a PC, the other side is a square with rounded top edges and 4 connectors.
Any help on these subjects would be greatly appreciated, thank you. |

1) only DSP-1 games are compatible with SFC (mario kart, pilot wings and some others) and you will need The (T-connector + game on Super FlashCart) to play them - (other special chip games will not work, super-fx. DSP2-4 and some others) - but almost all other normal game types should work fine
2) no, you need a switchbox parralel cable which has 25DB male/ 25DB male on both ends
3) you need a USB A/B or B/A cable for power
parallel cable is used for data transfer and usb is only used for powering the programmer - took me a week to understand and ording my kit soon  |

yes, the parallel cable from tototek.com works - i bought the one in the pic above for $20 lol - but it's a good one from belkin |

| There is no such thing as a "good" cable, unless you think it's good aesthetically, because a wire is a wire is a wire. People need to learn this; I cringe when I hear of people buying $100 Monster Cables. |

ok you go to the $1 shop and buy your cable and i will buy my cable from tomy.

everyone know that wires are basically the same dude - no need to start crap, i am just trying to help a fellow person out
$100 for monster cables? why but an expensive tv and use $10 cables? |

But you *are* implying that a $20 cable is better. Did you not just say you bought a $20 Belkin cable? Tomy is currently not selling the $4 generic cables as listed on the site?
Belkin's specs are useless, just about every cable has a data/gnd pair and gold plated contacts which are the only things they list that matter. Their "state-of-the-art" BS doesn't give them any better frequency response or less attenuation.
People shouldn't even buy a $10 cable if they can help it, they should spend ~$2/HQ connector and make their own targetted at their application. It's also not as if any of the 95% profit of a Monster Cable is given to Somalians or something.
What's sad is all the cablephiles out there who are clueless about their own creed. If you buy a fancy TV and still have cash left over, the money would be better put towards an education and useful tools such as a function generator/scope, crimping tools and cable parts. |

I agree about 99%. Sometimes (not always, that's for sure) more expensive cables have better shielding, and even compatibility. I remember one guy on this site from a thread a long time ago tried like 3 parallel cables (the right kind too), and finally broke down and bought a $20 cable from CompUSA. That cable worked with Tomy's stuff, the other's didn't, even though the other cables worked with all his other equipment.
But hey, it's not like you can look at any given cable you are buying, no matter the price, and know it's "better." W/o Xray vision and a bunch of lab tests, you can't tell. The way I see it, if the $1 cable works, it works, and that's all that matters.

i am just saying logically that a higher priced cable "most of the time is better quality and in constructed to a standard (iEEE) - if you are happy with your $1 cable good for you i am happy with my $20 cable. also all wires are not the same, but i will not get into that bacause i do not want to dust off my electronics for dummies book. |
