|
|
I've just got a SWC SMS3201 which was known to be faulty.
The thing is, whenever the disk drive is accessed, though the drive behaves as expected, the copier resets. I used a multimeter on the power to the floppy and it reads a solid 5.02v so all good there.
Once outside the case though, and moreso if you hold it in your hand, it seems to work (almost) ok.
Another odd thing to me is the screen flashes whenever the drive is accessed. Is that normal for this copier?
I tested another floppy drive, same issue. Swapped the data cable too.
The board looks in good condition.
I'm thinking it's either a grounding issue or broken power lead but how might one isolate a grounding problem?
Any help would be pretty wonderful! |

Those units pull power from the SNES and the flashing is normal. It's possible your SNES power supply has weakened and drops the power too low when it accesses the drive. You could try another or one with a higher amperage rating. |

That's a good idea, the PSU for mine isn't original.
I'll give it a go, thanks.
