Hello,
I bought another copier for my collection. Unfortunately I received it in a horrible condition. The case was loose when I opened the parcel because all sockets for the screws are broken! The ram board and some plastic parts where floating around. Luckily all resistors, etc are still in its position.
Anyway the main problem is the leaking battery. I'm going to remove this as my next step.
Furthermore I have some questions and it would be very nice if someone could help me:
- Can I damage the unit when I run it without the battery?
- What is that black stuff on the mainboard? It looks icky.
- What should I use to clean the mainboard?
- Could someone check the photos for broken conducting paths, please? |

I would remove the battery first up. You will need to neutralise the acid that has already leaked onto the PCB. If you don't get rid of the acid it will continue to corrode. I usually use a weak vinegar solution, followed up with a clean using isopropyl alcohol to ensure that you remove all moisture.
It's a bit difficult to see if any tracks need repairing from the photo. Just get to work with your multi-meter and check. I personally wouldn't put any power to this until checking for continuity on paths and cleaning up the battery. |
