Anyone have one of these kicking around? I may be looking for a 256MB RAM upgrade for my Doctor V64 as well.... have to see what's inside of mine.

Thanks

Sounds like a decent price to me... Are you able to hold that deal till I find out what mine has? It has been shipped... Not too sure how soon it will get here.

dx256 has nothing to do with the memory in your V64. It's for save games only, not total amount of RAM.

Here you go:

Madman, I know it's not exclusively for V64, but it does work for saves and is made by bung, and for N64 saves, so it's definitely relative.

Eastbay, I pointed it out because he was saying he wanted to wait to see if his v64 arrived with 128 or not. He was clearly referring to RAM, so I wanted him to know that the dx-256 has nothing to do with RAM, but with save games.

I know, and I didn't mention the dx256 because of RAM. I mentioned it because it is related to the V64 just like the DS1

LOL you two seem to bicker all over the board from what I have read. I appreciate both of your comments Razz

Is the DX256 necessary? I can't save games any other way?

You can save in EEPROM games by using any boot cartridge with EEPROM saves which is practically all games. The DX-256 is a "V64 emulation adapter" (blocks ROM access) that contains a large save EEPROM (256x the standard cart) so you don't overwrite saves on the boot cart. You select one of the 256 banks to use and it will work exactly the same as a boot cart. The DS-1 works similarly but contains SRAM instead for the few games that use SRAM... So you don't need it to save either, and it's actually pretty inconvenient to use unlike the DX-256 since you need to run a configuration ROM each time you want to switch banks.

i have both a dx256 and ds1 here:

http://www.tototek.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=2600

it is part of a package that includes a v64jr 512mb but i would consider splitting those 2 from the package if they were bought together
