Greetings.

It may be me, being an idiot, but I just can't get Mario Kart working on my GD7. Evil or Very Mad

I use Ucon64 to convert it, in the same way I do all my other ROM's but all that happens when I try to start the game is a green screen appears (with a black Nintendo logo in the middle) and then a black screen with the title music playing.

I doubt that my DSP adaptor is at fault as it plays Pilotwings flawlessly.

Has anyone got any ideas about what is going wrong?

Many thanks, guys.

Hi DoctorBackup.

Thanks for the response, mate.
Much to my astonishment, it works. Surprised

But I did not split Pilotwings, and that also works.
Any idea why?

It's still a little galling, having to use 16mbit to accomodate a 4mbit game.
Is there any way to fit it all into one 8mbit unit?

Thanks again.

Technically all HiRom games must be split, not DSP, that is why Pilotwings still works, it's a LoRom game. Are you running an unpatched Pilotwings on a GD DSP adapter?

Hi kyuusaku.

No. I tried Pilotwings without the patch but to no avail.
It is now patched and working fine.

I am using a GD7 with blue DSP adapter.

Kyuusaku.

You seem like a knowledgeable guy and no doubt you've been asked this a thousand times before, but here goes:

How does one get the DeJap versions of Tales of Phantasia and Star Ocean to work on a GD7?

If I try to convert TOP into the GD3 format with Ucon64 I get the following error message:
"ERROR: Normal ROM > 32 Mbit -- conversion not yet implemented"

I know it can be done because I've heard people saying thay've played it on GD7s.

Last, but by no means least is Star Ocean.
Again, the error appears as I try to convert the ROM:
"ERROR: This ROM > 32 Mbit LoROM -- can't convert"

Any help that you or anyone elso who's 'in the know' could offer would be greatly appreciated. Smile

Many thanks.

I see, I was hoping you had an abnormal DSP adapter. That means that the patch just replaces the DSP writes and doesn't remap the game if that even makes sense.

See here for TOP: http://tototek.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=264

I'm not sure if Tomy's way has a Game Doctor header or not, but if you want a header for completeness, I'm not sure where you can find the game's mapping.

Oh, BTW, you can fit a HiROM game into a single 8M bank thanks to Overload's ingenuity, see:

WHOOSH! Shocked <ducks as technical stuff flies straight over his head>

That appears to be a little too complex for the likes of me, I'm afraid.
I'm more of a hardware guy.
Never mind. I'm sure I'll just find one to download that someone else has done all the hard work on. Wink

Unless a nice person...... mailed them to me Wink Cool Wink Cool

I don't suppose you have that .png that Overload links to, have you?
The link's down, y'see.

Thanks for all your help, kyuusaku.
I appreciate it.

Which technical thing are you talking about?

I'm afraid I don't have Overload's header, if you would like get a proper header for TOP and his 1-file-Hirom header, just load TOP and a <=8M HiRom game into his emulator Super Sleuth and have it output one (I haven't used his emulator since he brought it up on Cherryroms so can't help ya there. IIRC his emulator outputs the first 32 bytes that actually matter, make sure that when you add it to a game, the header is padded to the necessary 512 bytes)

I feel lost and dirty.

I shall make a new thread that will hopefully solve my problems by paying someone else to do the dirty work. Smile

Thanks again, kyuusaku.
