Hey Everyone,

Do most copiers have the battery soldered to the underside or the top of the copier? I suppose this isn't standard, but if you stored your console upside down or right side up (based on where the battery is located), then perhaps any leaking that might occur would only drip on the plastic casing instead of all over your PCB?

PS: Ya, I know... You could just clip the battery out. I guess I'm just in a brainstorming mood at work. Smile

The leaking would then destroy the case on your copier. If you're worried about leaking, just remove the battery and replace with a new one. You'll be good for years. My 24m SWC I got back in the day is still running like a champ but I check the battery every few months to make sure it isn't leaking all over the place.

BTW, if you remove the battery without replacing it, copiers still boot up right? I assume so, just SRAM doesn't work anymore. I also assume if there is no battery power, and you try to quickly cycle power back to the menu you still won't be able to save SRAM to disk since power loss is instant? Well, I guess not in all cases because some copiers do have large capacitors that can retain SRAM for a while.

Yes, only SRAM retention will be lost. The copiers that use a capacitor for SRAM do not have batteries in them, it's an either or situation as far as I know. it's pretty easy to wire in a replacement battery in a holder that will easily be replaceable in the future if you are still using a copier in 10 years Smile
