|
|
Hey f0lks,
I have the older Bung GD6/7 CDROM drive, the caddy based system. Before I sell it, is there any interest in a chipset pictorial of the device? I don't know if it uses the same PCB as the newer model does. And if that knowledge helps folks to make clones of it, I am more than happy to do it.
If you haven't seen it before it looks like the first one shown here:

The drive works fine with my GD7, and I even used for a while as a parallel CDROM drive with my old 486 back in the day. The drive is a Panasonic CR-523 type device, and I believe the enclosure was made by KingByte because thats what it says in the DOS Driver.

| I'm sure people would love to have any pictures and information about it you can provide. There's a general lack of any really detailed pictures (inside or out) and we'd all like to see those.

Here is an inside shot. I've also included shots of the CDROM drive itself. It is a typical Panasonic / MKE drive. I think I did try a different Panasonic drive at one point, but it didnt work right for some reason.

Here's the controller board. It includes a connector for a SONY type drive. I haven't seen one of those before so I have no idea if that would work.
There are two chips on the top right that are hard to see in the shot:

Here is the back of the controller card. It has the Parallel and the Printer pass-through ports.
It also shows a half hidden manufacturer's date: 05/01/1994

| Excellent pictures. Very nice to see what the earlier Bung CD-ROM attachment looked like on the inside. Definitely the best pictures I've ever seen of it. Thanks.

Would be nice to be able to use a Disk Dual with a GDSF7 or GDSF3
in the meantime, check out this really awesome publication from the 90's that is also a full list of GDSF ROMS:
Here is another color catalog with GDSF ROMS lists:
and
These are just some of the images that I am putting together for my long overdue copier page

You wouldn't be able to use the DiskDual with the GDSF though. I imagine you'd need a new GDSF BIOS to work with the DiskDual.
Always nice to see more web sites about copiers. There aren't all that many and the more the better.

| Even though there are some copier websites, I plan to make mine with updated, high quality pics and perhaps even some videos. I don't however plan on stealing other people's pics without permission. Rob Web's site was great but many of his pics were from other sites. I plan on going in depth with every copier I own. I have many copier related publications that I plan to showcase.
