hey guys,
i'm an absolute newby in that copy station stuff, and have a problem with my super wild card (sms3201) for the snes. when i power on the snes with the wild card insered, the tv screen is flickering in green. it's like a third of the screen consits of one big green stripe moving up and down. when i insert a floppy the screen becomes black immediately. the floppy drive's led istn't green, like it's powered off. once the floppy drive made a curious sound like it's destroying the floppy. until then it has never made a sound again.
do you have an idea what might be wrong? i've just bought that backup station a few days ago. the previous owner doesn't seem to have had any problems.

Are you using an original SNES power supply or 3rd party? The SWC draws its power from the SNES itself. It's possible that your power supply can't handle the additional load.
Edit: I received a "broken" SWC once but it just needed the long cart piece reseated internally. You can also try booting it without the floppy plugged in, though I don't think that will matter.

I had a similar story with the same copier.
Last time I came back home in to switch on my SNES + SWC after maybe 10 years I got a black screen. First I thought it was a contact issue but many attempts didn't do anything.
I left both devices plugged on for an hour and when I switched the SNES on it worked only to display the SWC screen with flickers on the screen. The phenomenon was accentuating when I was accessing the FLOPPY DRIVE.
It's like the SWC was struggling to get power from the SNES.
Obviously as mentioned by madman it's most likely a power issue. I can think of:
1) bad psu
2) bad snes (some later versions don't output 5V)
3) tired capacitors
Let the devices plugged over night and the PSU warm up a little to see if you get better results.

Hi, thanks a lot for your answers!
I have had plugged in the swc and powered on the snes for several hours, the problem didn't disappear. Simply the psu became quiet warm, not to say hot. I'm not sure if it is the snes psu or the nes psu, the label says Super Adopter Entertainment System. I tried also to run the swc without its case and with the floppy drive unplugged. Always the same result. The snes' serial model number is snsp-001a(frg) . I got my snes quiet late, the n64 might already been available, i can't remember. Maybe the battery on the swc is exhausted?

oh...that would be sad.
but the former owner had also a pal snes and explicitly sold the swc only for pal users, because it wouldn't work with ntsc consoles.
The label on my power supply says for input AC220V 50/60Hz and for output DC9V 1000mA
Well, doensn't a snes need 1,3A? So my psu isn't strong enough? there is a difference of 300mA

| You guys are confusing Tomy's post. That post is only for externally powered copiers like the Bung units. The copier in question here doesn't even have a power jack on it.

I just got back from the electronics store with a new psu. I'm happy to say everything works fine now. The missing 200mA where causing the problem. So thank you very much to everyone for helping to solve the problem.

I know this photo, but do you know which magazine it's from? I see some French text around it...

I can't recall if it was in "L'Express" or "Le Nouvel Obs" but I also used a scanned version in an article I wrote in Pix'n'Love #15
There's a funny story behind that picture I'm not sure I told before.
It was taken at Gendarmerie Exelmans in Paris' 16th district.
A few month prior, someone left a box of floppies on a car's rooftop and it was brought to the nearest police district, that Gendarmerie Exelmans.
Analyzing the content of the floppies, the police officers discovered there was an underground market selling those copiers. At the time, nobody, including Nintendo, was aware of their existence.
Following an investigation, they realized there was a sizeable business around those machines. In France, Paradox and its leader Max Louarn (who later founded Team Xecuter) got into trouble for it.
Back then, my friend's brother had been selling some copiers for a couple of months and even advertised it in some official publications. The police also came down to his office and seized his stock but since there was no software, they only received a fine for it.
Ironically, some of the machines from the stock were placed in a different location and eventually my friend asked me to keep them safe...which I have been for more than 30 years
This is how pretty much I started the collection otherwise they would likely be in this photo
EDIT: I found the original archived article:
