I have both of these, but how do I use them? For the DX256, do I just use the knobs to turn to a combination (A-1) and it will automatically save there? Then when I play the same game, i go to the same combination, and it will be there? Also, how do I use the DS-1?

Yep, that's how you use the dx-256. I might still have the box/manual for mine to scan in, but that's all there is to it.

I would be interested in this too. I just aquired a 512mb e64/V64 jr with ds1 and dx256 (from a guy on craigslist for $260 shipped) and I am interested in transfering saves from either of those units to my PC since I normally use my z64 but SRAM/FlashRAM carts can only save one game on a cart at a time.

DS-1 requires a utility ROM to manage the saves... Which? I don't remember.

To backup any saves to the PC, you need another utility ROM to copy the save(s) into DRAM, then you need to transfer the DRAM back to the PC and pick out the data. Not super easy on CD64 or V64, but on the V64 Jr all you need a tool called EvekII which automates it.
