I have an issue with the V64 I just bought from someone online:
Issue is when I turn the device on it works (most of the time) but after loading a game and turning on the N64 all I get a is a black screen.
My setup
1. V64 version 2.01
2. Memory I believe is has 256 (both ram slots are full)
3. N64 NTSC (US)
4. Black emulation card for the top of the unit
5. A white 256 dsp card
6. Black connector between the v64 and n64
7. Physical games: Star wars episode 1 racer, Mario Golf, 1080 snowboarding
8. The button the V64 are dark purple
Problems with V64
1. Sometimes the unit wont turn on, if I tap the right side it suddenly will turn on
2. Sometimes it wont load cds, if I tap on the cdrom drive it suddenly will turn on and read a cd
3. When I do a dram test it just sits there and nothing happens (do I have bad memory?)
4. When I do a full system test everything checks out fine.
No problems with the N64 (plays physical cards fine)
How I load a game:
1. I have gone in the menu and chosen to load a crack
2. It then reads the cd and ask for me to turn on N64
3. Then it counts to “2” and then asks to “disable N64”
4. Then I choose a game off the cd
5. The game shows it loading and then says you can play the game
6. Turn the unit on, and I see a black screen
7. In the N64 is the Black emu cart, white dsp (tried without as well) and a physical game such as Mario Golf.
8. I also tried to load a game with out using the crack, and have the same issue
Note all games are in the V64 format
Any ideas what might be wrong with my V64? |

| It sounds like you have several issues going on. One sounds like a power supply issue. Probably the jack connecting to the V64 mainboard is loose and needs a resolder. Possibly also the CD power cable is loose. When you turn the N64 on, do you hear a click sound coming from the V64? |

I dont remember a click sound but I will double check when I get home tonight.
I will open the device and see if the cdrom and/or power connection needs to be resolder.
Any thoughts on why I am getting the black screen even though the Doctor shows the game loaded? I should mention too when I turn off the N64 the doctor V64 menu screen comes back on.
Also any thought on why when I do a dram check it just freezes?
By loading the crack first and then the game, Am I loading the games correctly? |

| Black screen could mean a few things. Might be a bad connection between the N64 and V64. Why not try loading a ROM without protection to lessen the variables? I've never had a DRAM check fail so I can't help you there. Also, try loading a <=128m game with only one RAM card in. Try to do some troubleshooting on your own and report back. |

I have no idea how to tell if a rom has protection..
Anyway I took out the ram and I tried each ram module 1 at time in each slot.. still black screen.
I also tried to replace the cdrom.. still black screen
Also i tried to backup a card (1080 or star wars ep1 racer) to dram.. it just gave question marks and never backed up |
