Mine had a panasonic (matsushita) CDROM drive in it which I took out and replaced with the same model of drive. I might still even have the drive that I took out. It still works but the tray mechanism was a bit clunky that's why I replaced it. I know I have a pile of CDrom drives but I'm not sure what all is there. I'll try to remember to take a look. _________________ -amptor |

Hi mate,
And thank you very much for the reply. If you do have the time and find the drive that was working please let me know the model number if possible perhaps i can source on ebay! thatd be great. i know the IDE bus works as i have a spare bios chip which i flashed the HDD bios to and that loads games of the HDD fine.

| Pretty much any IDE CD-ROM will work from my experience. IDE is IDE. |

It appears that I ewasted it some time ago with a bunch of 486, 386 and 286 equipment that was just sitting in my desk.
I only have some Toshiba CD-ROM drives left now. I do remember that when I tried to use a CD-RW drive it didn't like that, nor did it take a spare DVD-R drive I had laying around.
I guess any IDE CD-ROM might work but I doubt it. I think it is a certain spec and probably most work but not all. Some people used to upgrade to 24x CD-ROM and it worked fine too. The unit I had came with an 8x drive. _________________ -amptor |

Cheers Braveblue, my replacement just arrived but its an old cd-rw/dvd rom i dont expect itll work in which case ill have a look about see it i cant ebay one of these. Thanks guys.
Am modding my V64 to run both Ozones HDD mod and cd-rom, a DTDP switch should let me switch between the CD-rom and HDD, currently all roms on the HDD load and boot fine! |
