Hi all,

I recently dusted off my attic and found my old snes and a pro fighter x (3in1) and was overjoyed to play it again with a mate.

But... sadly i can only get as far as the pro fighter's menu screen, all floppy disk games i have either say "no disk" (when powered 9v) or "read err" (when powered 12v) i know its bad to up the volts for anything, i did it cus i read it on a site that the floppy drive is the only thing powered by the powersupply and the rest gets its power directly from the snes.
I'm not sure what the problem is so i tried putting in a different floppy drive like 1 from my pc, but it uses a cross flat-cable and just showed a black screen. i probably need the correct type of floppy drive.

Since i dont really wanna start buying all sorts of things before atleast having a clue about what might be wrong, i came across this forum and thought i'd ask here
So, what do you guys and girls think might be wrong? or what else can i try?

Thnx in advance,
Aapjuh

One thing to be sure of is that your disks are good. Try inserting a cartridge and backing it up to some freshly formatted floppys. Format the floppies in the Pro Fighter itself.

thnx for the quick response.

i put new (fresh out of box wrap) floppy's in it and it was able to format them.
the pro fighter x 3in1 only allows me to backup american cartridges i think, theres only a.. erm.. how to explain.. the insert part for the cartridges looks like this __ _______ __ and all my cartridges are ______ i tried putting in a original game i dont like (tintin) and then i just get black screen and the snes red power light goes very dim like it doesn't have enough power, i dont own any american cartridges so cant test the backup function i guess.

oh and i tried save file orso with a new floppy in it (i had to pick a name for it etc) and it failed.

i have about 60 games on floppy disks and i randomly picked and tried loading like 10 orso (ofc i picked my favorite games first ^^ which i know worked in the past). 1 game got to the loading part where it showed the games name and then failed. (but i have no recollection ever playing that game so dunno if it was bad in the first place)

Do you have the Pro Fighter's power input plugged into a proper power supply? I have a Double Pro Fighter, which requires a center negative 9volt direct current power supply (megadrive model 1 is good). If you only have the SNES plugged into the power, it is not necessarily enough to power the floppy drive correctly.

Thnx for the reply,

yes, i have a Luxus Universal Adapter AC-DC , with the polarity switch on "Center-minus, Outside-Plus" plugged into it.

the only Snes plug i got is already in use by the snes itself.

And this supply is 9 volts?

I'm not sure what else to check other than run any self test options that are in the copier menu. And maybe try to get a suitable replacement floppy drive.
