Hi!
I got a MGD2 with a broken floppy drive. After reading some posts from Kyuusaku I understand that this is a common problem with the MGD2. It has a propritary Mitsubishi drive. I also read a post from Kyuusaku about replacement drives which are rewired NEC drives.
Kyuusaku, or anyone else, do you have more information on this subject that might be helpful?
Info on the NEC drive and how it is rewired would be fantastic of course....
Are there common problems with the MGD2 drive that can be fixed?

MGD2 floppys are sort of deceiving, they are actually common 34-pin slimline floppys but carry VCC and GND over the IDC ribbon. You can actually use a regular floppy with it if you find one that will fit. Open up your MGD2 and look for the floppy connector, you'll see a space for a 34-pin connector where 26-pin headers were placed, I think you can just put a 34-pin floppy on the 26-pins. You will need to find VCC/GND elsewhere and connect it to the floppy molex power connector though. I haven't done this but it looks like it will work. |

Just wanted to says thank you for taking the time to help me Kyuusaku. I havn't had any success yet. The floppy doesn't respond to the MGD2. Looks like many laptop drives are 26-pin. Maybe it's one of those I need. Going to look for a 26-pin laptop drive. Will keep you updated.
