Here is a Super Magic Drive 32mb. It does exist, and I have tested it out fine with Mortal Kombat 3

I converted BIN files to SMD with a tool called SMD BIN WIN 2.0b-rc2 (Windows program that converts BIN to SMD, SMD to BIN). For games over 8mb, I used Segatool to split into 8mb chunks.

Nobody doubted that it existed, we've talked about it before and I've had one for a couple of years.

I'm sure they were all excited to see the screen say "32M" instead of something else.

I don't know if I was more excited to see where the NiCad battery had started to leak onto the PCB, or if it was shoddy soldering job of the 2 x 4mbit NEC SOJ packages (one looks scorched). I'd be verifying to ensure that all of the 32mbit works fine.

I personally would not worry about the RAM (as long as it works), but I would replace the battery.... I have seen too many SMDs being eaten alive....

I use similar 3.6V barrel type batteries, but NiMH instead of NiCd.

Is that battery soldered in there or is it held in a holder? I seem to remember a similar looking NiCd battery in CPS2 B boards but they had silver leads on both ends soldered to the board so it was easy to just clip them since I had a dead board that I had Razoola help me Phoenix. Ofcourse I had no reason to replace it, I'm guessing the SMD has the battery for some good reason like retaining SRAM while off? Which seems strange since it has a separate power supply.

The battery is soldered to the PCB. It's nice to have in case there is a power issue... (retaining SRAM)

It doesn't have a separate power supply, neither does the Magicom.

Ahhh... forgot. I knew I had a PSU for it, but it goes to the external floppy drive...

wow, I didn't know there actually existed a 32 mb super magic drive. I thought only magic drive plus could be 32 mb. So are there other 32 mb sega genesis copiers ?
