Hi all, I'd love to get my hands on a N64 copier. CD64's are suppose to be good correct? Which one has the most compatibility? I do like the idea of loading from the CD drive. Little buggers are sold out everywhere..
Thanks |

There are I think 3 N64 Copiers out there.
Doctor V64. Comes with 128Mbits to 256Mbits of DRAM. Loads from CD-ROM.
CD64. I think it has 128Mbit and 256Mbit versions but I could be mistaken. Loads from CD.
Mr Backup Z64. Comes in both 128Mbit and 256Mbit. There are 3 versions. V1 is 128Mbit only. V2 and V3 can and usually are 256Mbit. Z64 loads from ZIP Disks.
Then there is a 4th which isn't a copier, called the Doctor V64 Jr. which is the only one that supports 512mbit games.
I don't know much about their operation other than pretty much any of then should let you play most games. I've heard people say the CD64 is cheaply built/flimsy. Z64 I've heard due to it blocking the top vent ports makes it important to circulate air around the system to avoid overheating. I've not heard anything negative about the V64. |

z64 is by far the best. You can use a compact flash to IDE adapter and compact flash carts. Mine is like that and I have every USA game on an 8gb compact flash cart.
CD64 isn't all that bad. V64 I hate and only have it for my collection. V64jr I have also for 512mb games but you may as well get the actual cartridge for games over 256mb.
There is a 5th called the wildcard 64 but it seems to be a cheap knockoff of a cd64. Neoflash is coming out with an n64 flash cart, but they take a long time to release their stuff (other than NDS carts) - took 3 years for them to release their Sega Genesis/32x/MarkIII cart. |

| Man, so many models. I guess the unit with the least amont of hassle... Having all games on one CF card sounds even better than a CD drive lol. 100% compatibility would excellent too. Z64 plays the 512 MB games no prob? |

| I think I read that there are only what 5 games that are 512 MB anyways? I could always buy those carts if I want to be really picky. |

Yes that is exactly what I said earlier. Better to buy carts that are over 256mb than buy a v64 jr |

The V64 Jr (or E64 during Bung's pending court case) was also a copier/cart dumper. I used to prefer dumping carts using the V64Jnr back in the day compared to the V64. |

How did the V64 Jr. dump cartridges? From what I remember seeing of it, it's a big cartridge with parallel port on it and has batteries as well. I don't see how you could dump a game as it had no way to attach to a cartridge, it was a cartridge itself. Did you require some adapter or something?
By the way, Tototek sells or did sell the V64 Jr. aka E64. No idea if they still have stock of it. |

My V64Jnr is in storage, here's a snapshot of the back of my E64 complete with cartridge port.
There were a few dumping utils in the day wJrWrite, obsidians Ziyal. When scene dumping I would use another tool from a mate Redbox (which I'm not sure if it ever saw a public release). From memory you were required to know the security chip (CIC6102-6), which I always checked by opening the cart before each dump
Anyway, thread hijack time.... I am still looking for a Z64 Mr Backup. Need one to complete my N64 backup unit collection |

| That's cool, I never knew it had that capability. I'd never actually seen a picture showing the back of the unit. |

| That is pretty cool. Back in the day however before the internet took off, I would just use the Z64 to back up games straight to ZIP disks |
